Soprano Maria Vasilevskaya born in Novosibirsk, Siberia, praised for her “sweet and clear tone” (Palm Beach Daily News) is currently an ensemble member at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Her repertoire there includes Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Helena (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Samaritana (Francesca da Rimini), First Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Nella (Gianni Schicchi), Signora Süssauer/Frau Knochen (Die Drei Rätsel), Berta (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Tebaldo (Don Carlo), Annina (La traviata), Countess Ceprano (Rigoletto), Vierte Magd (Elektra), and Das Echo der Rätselstimmung (Antikrist). In the previous season, she was a recipient of the Opera Foundation New York “Deutsche Oper Berlin” Scholarship.

A winner of the Extraordinary Prize at the 62nd Tenor Viñas Competition, finalist in the Hans Gabor Belvedere Competition, and two-time Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition District Winner, Maria made her Staatsoper Unter den Linden debut in summer 2025 as Annina in Dieter Dorn’s production of La traviata.

An alumna of the Palm Beach Opera Young Artist Program, she performed and studied a wide range of roles including Antonia (Les contes d’Hoffmann), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Mimì (La Bohème), Tatiana (Eugene Onegin), Dvořák’s Rusalka, Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Clotilde (Norma), Belinda (Dido and Aeneas), and Adina (L’elisir d’amore).

Maria is also active in contemporary opera. She appeared in the world premiere of Gordon Kampe’s immermeeehr and collaborated with techno DJ ACUD in Immersion/Emersion—both Deutsche Oper Berlin productions. She sang in Ricky Ian Gordon’s The Tibetan Book of the Dead with Eastman Opera Theatre, and studied the role of Roxanne Coss in Jimmy López’s Bel Canto at the Aspen Music Festival, where she also collaborated with Peter Sellars and Matthew Aucoin on their new opera Music for New Bodies, making its Aspen premiere in summer 2024.

During her 2023/2024 residency at Aspen Music Festival, she performed excerpts as Angelica in Handel’s Orlando under Nicholas McGegan, and as Ortlinde (Die Walküre) with Robert Spano and the Aspen Festival Orchestra. She also appeared as Contessa (Le nozze di Figaro) and Violetta Valéry (La traviata) with the Aspen Conducting Academy Orchestra, and was the soprano soloist in Ginastera’s Cantata para América Mágica.

Maria is a former Des Moines Metro Opera Apprentice Artist and holds Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from the Eastman School of Music and the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, respectively.
